Comet Dust

A supernatural thriller inspired by scripture and the prophecies of the saints.

Eighteen month ago, the earth survived a comet strike. Famine, economic depression, and soaring crime rates rode in on its tail. While the government scrambles for solutions, Gina Applegate vlogs about college life and current events. God doesn’t figure large in her life. Nonetheless, Gina thinks she’s a pretty good person—until the Illumination of Conscience gives her a glimpse of hell, shaking her fragile faith. As the world slips deeper into darkness, the gulf between the godly and the godless widens, leaving no middle ground. Gina must choose a side. Recommended for ages 16 and up.

[After the] great Comet, the great nation will be devastated by earthquakes, storms, and great waves of water, causing much want and plagues. The ocean will also flood many other countries, so that all coastal cities will live in fear, with many destroyed...For in none of those cities does a person live according to the Laws of God. A powerful wind will rise in the North, carrying heavy fog and the densest dust, and it will fill their throats and eyes so that they will cease their butchery and be stricken with a great fear. —Saint Hildegard (12th Century)

"Keeps you on the edge of your seat. You never know what will happen next. Keeps you wanting to turn the page and not put the book down."  -Belinda, Goodreads
"Avant Nation is one of the best YA books I have ever read. I loved the writing style and the plot. Everything about this book was thrilling." -The Bohemian Housewife

UPDATE: 02/20/2017:

This time last year the sequel was about eighty percent complete. After getting stuck on a scene, I decided to start on something entirely different, a tale that had been rolling around in my head for years, which I thought was only a short story, but turned out to be an entire novel (Comet Dust). Now I'm working on Avant Nation again.

I'm happy to report that the rough draft of the second Avant Nation book is complete and the third is well on its way. My apologies for taking so long, but I want the luxury of being able to make changes to book 2 based on what I come up with book 3. I'm waiting until they're both complete before I send anything off to the editor. If all goes to plan, the second will be released in the Fall of 2017.

Reviewers Weigh-In:

"Red was a jerk, but he grew on me. Just like a flawed hero should." --Ashley Murphy, Between the Pages

"I love the fact that a major character is a total bitch--as in female dog." --Donna from Indy

"Not a fan of aliens, but I like post-apocalyptic, so I took a chance. Glad I did. The survivors had dealt with so much loss, but never gave up. The way they learned to rely on each other was inspiring." --7th Heaven Book Review

"A little drama. A little romance. A lot of excitement. There's also a little religion, so consider yourself warned. Fortunately it's left for the reader to decide if the new powers come from god or if the scientific explanation is correct." --RJ
